Lead futures drop 0.62% on ease of demand

Lead futures were trading lower during the morning trade in the domestic market on Thursday as investors and speculators remained on the sidelines in the industrial metal due to fall in physical demand for lead, from battery-makers, in the domestic spot market. Further, a drop in physical demand from battery-makers in the domestic spot market, influenced prices of lead at futures trade. At the MCX, lead futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 136.70 per kg, down by 0.62 per cent, after opening at Rs 137.25, against a previous close of Rs 137.55. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 136.70 (at 10:52 hours).

Aluminium futures slide 0.40% on sluggish demand

Aluminium futures were trading lower during the morning trade in the domestic market on Thursday as participants indulged in trimming their positions in the industrial metal amidst drop in physical demand for aluminium in the domestic spot market. Further, a slide in physical demand for aluminium at the domestic spot market was due to exiting of positions by traders in the spot markets, influenced aluminium prices at futures trade. At the MCX, aluminium futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 111.60 per kg, down by 0.40 per cent, after opening at Rs 111.70, against a previous close of Rs 112.05. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 111.60 (at 10:52 hours).

Zinc futures were trading lower during the morning trade in the domestic market on Thursday as investors and speculators remained on the sidelines in the industrial metal amid subdued physical demand from consuming industries at the domestic spot markets. Further, participants indulged in trimming their positions in the industrial metal due to fall in demand from consuming industries, influenced prices of zinc at futures trade. At the MCX, zinc futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 155.90 per kg, up by 0.26 per cent, after opening at Rs 156.30, against a previous close of Rs 156.30. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 155.85 (at 10:42 hours).

Weak US consumer data bites Copper

Copper futures fell on Wednesday as investors and speculators exit positions in the industrial metal amid weak physical demand for copper in the domestic spot market.
Further, US consumer confidence fell in October, signalling a slowdown in the world’s biggest economy, clouding the demand outlook for metals. The gauge measuring US consumer confidence fell to a three-month low of 98.6 in October from a revised 103.5 in September.
At the MCX, copper futures for November 2016 contract is trading at Rs 315.95 per kg, down by 0.41 per cent, after opening at Rs 315.9, against a previous close of Rs 317.25. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 315.4 (at 11:51 AM).

Flat trade in yellow metal

Gold futures were trading flat during trade on Wednesday even as prices remained supported by prospects of higher demand from India ahead of the festive season with Diwali and Dhanteras round the corner.
Gold buying in India typically picks up during the festive season when the bullion is given as a gift.
Further, confidence among American consumers fell to the lowest level in three months in October 2016, bolstering the case for the US Federal Reserve to undertake a slow pace of monetary tightening.
At the MCX, gold futures for December 2016 contract were trading at Rs 29955 per 10 grams, up by 0.04 per cent, after opening at Rs 29,980, against a previous close of Rs 29,942. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 30,000 (at 11:44 AM).

Oil plunges on Russia fears, US supplies

Crude oil futures tanked over 1.5 per cent during morning trade in the domestic market on Wednesday as investors and speculators exit positions in the energy commodity on speculation that Russia won’t join the OPEC in planned output cuts, exacerbating concerns over a global supply glut. Meanwhile, US crude storage levels rose by a massive 4.8 million barrels last week, the industry-funded American Petroleum Institute (API) said. The EIA on Wednesday will release separate crude inventory data for the US. At the MCX, crude oil futures for November 2016 contract is trading at Rs 3302 per barrel, down by 1.55 per cent, after opening at Rs 3345, against a previous close of Rs 3354. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 3298. (At 11:24 AM).

Aluminium futures gain on spot demand

Aluminium futures were trading higher during the afternoon trade in the domestic market on Friday as speculators built up fresh positions on uptick in demand from consuming industries in the spot market. Analysts said fresh positions created by participants following pickup in demand from consuming industries in the spot market, mainly influenced aluminium prices at futures trade. At the MCX, aluminium futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 107.80 per kg, up by 0.09 per cent, after opening at Rs 108.20, against a previous close of Rs 107.70. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 108.25 (at 14:22 hours).

Nickel bears rule the roost

Nickel futures fell during noon trade in the domestic market on Friday as investors and speculators exit positions in the industrial metal amid weak physical demand for nickel, from alloy-makers, in the domestic spot market.
Traders weighed mixed US economic data as existing home sales rose 3.2 per cent in September, a leading index climbed 0.2 per cent last month but jobless claims surged by 13,000 last week, the biggest increase since July.
At the MCX, nickel futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 672 per kg, down by 0.47 per cent, after opening at Rs 674.9, against a previous close of Rs 675.2.It touched the intra-day low of Rs 671.3. (at 12:56 PM).

Zinc higher after ECB decision

Zinc futures rose during noon trade in the domestic market on Friday as investors and speculators booked fresh positions in the industrial metal amid a pickup in physical demand for zinc in the domestic spot market.
Further, sentiment improved after the European Central Bank (ECB) at a meeting on Thursday refrained from tinkering with interest rates and kept its bond buying program unchanged but indicated that its QE program may run past the scheduled end-date of March 2017 as it looks to trigger a sustained rebound in Euro area inflation and boost growth with risks to the outlook still tilted to the downside.
At the MCX, zinc futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 152.5 per kg, up by 0.10 per cent, after opening at Rs 152.7, against a previous close of Rs 152.35. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 152.75 (at 12:31 PM).

Crude oil down as U.S. crude supplies dip

Crude oil futures were trading lower in the domestic market on Friday after data showed an unexpected weekly drop in U.S. crude supplies and optimism surrounding the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting countries’ plan to limit output lifted prices in New York to their highest level since mid-July of last year.
Many market watchers aren’t enthused by the deal, saying the group’s longstanding internal tensions will make it difficult for all members to be on board. Even if a deal is struck, it remains a question if the members would obey to the production quotas.
At the MCX, crude oil futures for November 2016 contract were trading at Rs 3394 per barrel, down by 0.15 per cent, after opening at Rs 3390, against a previous close of Rs 3399. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 3376.(at 11:55 hrs)

Lead futures up on spot demand

Lead futures were trading higher during the morning trade in the domestic market on Friday on rising demand from battery makers. Furthermore, a firming trend in base metals overseas supported the upside in metal prices.
At the MCX, lead futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 134.70 per kg, up by 0.26 per cent, after opening at Rs 134.60, against a previous close of Rs 134.35. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 135.20 (at 11:17 hours).

Muted demand drags down cardamom futures

Cardamom futures were trading lower during the morning trade in the domestic market on Friday as traders trimmed their position, tracking easing demand in the spot market against adequate stocks position.
Analysts said offloading of positions by participants owing to slackened demand in the spot market against sufficient stocks position on increased supplies from producing regions mainly led to the decline in cardamom prices at futures trade.
At the MCX, cardamom futures for November 2016 contract is trading at Rs 1174 per kg, down by 0.46 per cent, after opening at Rs 1176.50, against a previous close of Rs 1179.40. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 1168.10 (at 11:07 hours).


Mentha oil futures up by 0.10%

Mentha oil futures were trading higher during the morning trade in the domestic market on Friday as participants indulged in enlarging their positions, supported by increased demand from consuming industries at spot market.
Analysts said building of positions by traders amid strong demand from consuming industries at the spot market against restricted supplies from Chandausi, mainly kept mentha oil prices higher at futures trade.
At the MCX, mentha oil futures for October 2016 contract were trading at Rs 912.10 per kg, up by 0.10 per cent after opening at Rs 912.90, against the previous closing price of Rs 911.20. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 913.50 (at 11:06 hours).

Oil surges on US inventory drop

Crude oil futures jumped by over 1 per cent during late morning trade in the domestic market on Wednesday as investors and speculators booked fresh positions in the energy commodity as a decline in US crude oil stockpiles last week eased fears over a global supply glut.
The industry-funded American Petroleum Institute (API) reported a 3.8 million barrels decline in US crude oil stockpiles in the week ended October 14, 2016.
This comes after the EIA last week reported a build of 4.9 million barrels in US crude storage levels.
Supplies in Cushing, Oklahoma, witnessed a massive drop of 1.96 million barrels last week, the biggest withdrawal since February 2014.
At the MCX, crude oil futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 3384 per barrel, up by 1.32 per cent, after opening at Rs 3358, against a previous close of Rs 3340. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 3387. (At 11:25 AM).

Crude oil futures were trading higher in the domestic market on Friday in the wake of a U.S. government report that revealed the first weekly rise in crude supplies since the end of August, but also a drop in output for the lower 48 states to the lowest level in over two years.
At the MCX, crude oil futures for October 2016 contract was trading at Rs 3404 per barrel, up by 1.16 per cent, after opening at Rs 3386, against a previous close of Rs 3365. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 3415. (At 02:25 PM).

Lead advances driven by spot demand

Lead futures rose during the afternoon trade in the domestic market on Friday amid a firming trend at the spot market on rising demand from battery makers.
Furthermore, a firming trend in base metals overseas supported the upside in metal prices. According to market analysts, rising demand from battery makers at spot markets and strength in base metals at the London Metal Exchange helped lead futures trade higher.
At the MCX, lead futures for October 2016 contract was trading at Rs 133.55 per kg, up by 0.38 per cent, after opening at Rs 133.40, against a previous close of Rs 133.05. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 134.15 (at 13:18 hrs).

Silver bulls rule the roost

Silver futures jumped during noon trade in the domestic market on Friday as investors as participants engaged in trimming their positions taking weak cues from global market.
Marketmen attributed the fall in silver prices at futures trade to a weak trend in the precious metals overseas and profit-booking by participants at existing levels.
At the MCX, silver futures for December 2016 contract was trading at Rs 41,930 per kg, up by 0.10 per cent, after opening at Rs 41,856, against a previous close of Rs 41,890. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 41,965 (At 13:03 hrs).

Cardamom remains buoyant in noon trade

Cardamom futures jumped by more than 1.5 per cent during noon trade in the domestic market on Thursday as investors and speculators booked fresh positions in the agri-commodity amid a pickup in physical demand for cardamom in the domestic spot market.
Further, restricted supplies amid lower physical arrivals from the major cardamom producing regions also exerted upward pressure on domestic cardamom prices.
At the MCX, cardamom futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 1176 per kg, up by 1.51 per cent, after opening at Rs 1170, against a previous close of Rs 1158.50. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 1190.1 (at 10:23 hours).

Oil lower on US supply rise

Crude oil futures fell during late morning trade in the domestic market on Thursday as investors and speculators exit positions in the energy commodity after US crude storage levels rose significantly last week, worsening fears of a global supply glut.
The industry-funded American Petroleum Institute (API) said on Wednesday that US crude oil supplies climbed by 2.7 million barrels in the week ended October 7, 2016. Analysts were expecting crude oil inventories in the US to increase by 250,000 barrels last week. The EIA will release separate US crude inventory data on Thursday.
Doubts are emerging over the OPEC’s plan to slash output by 200,000 to 700,000 barrels a day reached late September as Russia remains non-committal over a production cut.
At the MCX, crude oil futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 3331 per barrel, down by 0.60 per cent, after opening at Rs 3331, against a previous close of Rs 3386. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 3322. (At 11:58 AM).

Crude oil futures zoom after OPEC output accord

Crude oil futures were trading higher during the afternoon trade in the domestic market on Monday as investors and speculators widened their positions in the energy commodity after a planned production cut by exporter club OPEC.
The oil prices had been supported following the OPEC’s preliminary agreement to cut production.
Last week, OPEC said it would cut output to between 32.5 million barrels per day (bpd) and 33.0 million bpd from about 33.5 million bpd, with details to be finalised at its policy meeting in November. At the MCX, crude oil futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 3,246 per barrel, up by 1.06 per cent, after opening at Rs 3,202, against a previous close of Rs 3,212. Following gold, silver futures were trading higher during the afternoon trade in the domestic market on Thursday as investors and speculators widened their positions in the precious metals tracking a firm cues globally.
Further, a rise in prices for silver was in-line with a firm trend in overseas markets as Fed Chair Janet Yellen said that there was no fixed timetable for US interest rate tightening.
Still, many of Yellen’s colleagues have signaled that an interest rate hike would be appropriate before the end of the year.
The Fed is looking for continuation of the job market recovery, and if no new risks arise, than a rate hike in December could be well on the cards.

Cardamom futures rose during noon trade in the domestic market on Thursday as investors and speculators booked fresh positions in the agri-commodity amid a pickup in physical demand for cardamom from major consuming industries in the domestic spot market.
However, the gains in domestic cardamom prices were curbed by abundant supplies amid higher physical arrivals from the major cardamom producing regions in the country.
At the MCX, cardamom futures for September 2016 contract is trading at Rs 1122.3 per kg, up by 0.17 per cent, after opening at Rs 1116.7, against a previous close of Rs 1120.40. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 1140.10 (at 13:10 PM).

Gold stronger after Yellen comments

Gold futures rose during noon trade in the domestic market on Thursday as investors and speculators booked fresh positions in the yellow metal as Fed Chair Janet Yellen said that there was no fixed timetable for US interest rate tightening, bolstering the lure for the bullion as a store of value.
Still, many of Yellen’s colleagues have signaled that an interest rate hike would be appropriate before the end of the year.
The Fed is looking for continuation of the job market recovery, and if no new risks arise, than a rate hike in December could be well on the cards.
At the MCX, gold futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 31,093 per 10 grams, up by 0.45 per cent, after opening at Rs 30,990, against a previous close of Rs 30,955. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 31,100 (at 12:59 PM).

Also, batteries account for about 80 per cent of lead demand. Thus, ahead of peak season battery makers typically start re-stocking metal in the September or October months.

Improved US demand outlook lifts Lead

Lead futures rose during noon trade in the domestic market on Wednesday as investors and speculators booked fresh positions in the industrial metal amid a pickup in physical demand for lead from battery-makers in the domestic spot market.
Further, a surge in US consumer confidence to a nine-year high in September 2016 and a pickup in US private sector growth signaled an improved outlook for metal demand in the world’s biggest economy. A combined gauge measuring US manufacturing and services rose to 52 this month from 51.5 in August, with a reading above 50 signaling expansion.
At the MCX, lead futures for September 2016 contract is trading at Rs 130.9 per kg, up by 0.85 per cent, after opening at Rs 130, against a previous close of Rs 129.80. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 131.25 (at 14:58 PM).

Natural gas futures tanked by more than 1 per cent during noon trade in the domestic market on Wednesday as investors and speculators exit positions in the energy commodity tracking weakness overseas amid caution ahead of Thursday’s US storage data which may indicate the state of the demand for the fuel in the world’s biggest gas consuming nation.
In the week ended September 16, 2016, gas supplies in the US rose by 52 billion cubic feet. Total US storage levels are 4 per cent higher than levels at this time a year ago and 7.5 per cent above the five-year average for this time of year.

Philippine supply fears prop up Nickel

Nickel futures rose during noon trade in the domestic market on Wednesday as investors and speculators booked fresh positions in the industrial metal amid a pickup in physical demand for nickel, from alloy-makers, in the domestic spot market.
Meanwhile, fears that a crackdown on mines in Philippines, which is the world's top miner of nickel ore, may restrict global supplies pushed up prices.
Authorities in Philippines, which makes up for nearly a quarter of the world's mined nickel supply, said that 20 more mines may be suspended on environmental violation grounds, leaving only 11 in operation.
At the MCX, nickel futures for September 2016 contract is trading at Rs 706 per kg, up by 0.41 per cent, after opening at Rs 703, against a previous close of Rs 703.10. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 710 (at 14:38 PM).

The gauge measuring US consumer sentiment climbed to 104.1 this month, the highest since August 2007, from a revised 101.8 in August. Further, the index measuring US services rose to 51.9 in September from 51 in August, with a reading above 50 signaling expansion.
At the MCX, copper futures for November 2016 contract is trading at Rs 324.20 per kg, up by 0.54 per cent, after opening at Rs 322.35, against a previous close of Rs 322.45. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 324.30 (at 13:41 PM).
