Aluminium futures fall on ease of demand

Aluminium futures were trading lower during the morning trade in the domestic market on Wednesday as participants indulged in trimming their positions in the industrial metal amidst fall in physical demand for aluminium in the domestic spot market. Further, a drop in demand for aluminium at the domestic spot market was due to exiting of positions by traders in the spot markets, influenced aluminium prices at futures trade. At the MCX, aluminium futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 111.10 per kg, down by 0.18 per cent, after opening at Rs 111.40, against a previous close of Rs 111.30. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 111.05 (at 10:39 hours).

Zinc futures drop 0.60% on sluggish physical demand

Zinc futures were trading lower during the morning trade in the domestic market on Wednesday as investors and speculators exited their positions in the industrial metal amid sluggish physical demand from consuming industries at the domestic spot markets. Further, participants indulged in trimming their bets in the industrial metal due to slide in demand from consuming industries, influenced prices of zinc at futures trade. At the MCX, zinc futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 156.50 per kg, down by 0.60 per cent, after opening at Rs 156.85, against a previous close of Rs 157.45. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 156.50 (at 10:27 hours).

Subdued demand drags down nickel futures by 0.28%

Nickel futures were trading lower during the morning trade in the domestic market on Wednesday as investors and speculators remained on the sidelines in the industrial metal amid muted physical demand for nickel from major consuming industries in the domestic spot market. The prices of nickel fall due to exiting of positions by participants in the industrial metal on account of subdued physical demand from alloy-makers at domestic spot markets. At the MCX, nickel futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 680.10 per kg, down by 0.28 per cent, after opening at Rs 681.90, against a previous close of Rs 682. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 679.90 (at 10:27 hours).

Mentha oil futures surge on spot demand

Mentha oil futures were trading higher during the morning trade in the domestic market on Wednesday as participants extended their positions in the agri-commodity amid uptick in physical demand for mentha oil from major consuming industries in the domestic spot market. Further, building up of fresh positions by traders in the spot market led by an increase in demand for mentha oil from consuming industries at the domestic spot market against insufficient stocks position on restricted supplies from producing regions, supported mentha oil prices at futures trade. At the MCX, mentha oil futures for October 2016 contract were trading at Rs 895 per kg, up by 0.19 per cent after opening at Rs 894.10, against the previous closing price of Rs 893.30. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 896 (at 10:27 hours).

Cardamom futures gain on upsurge in demand

Cardamom futures were trading higher during the evening trade in the domestic market on Tuesday as investors and speculators extended their positions in the agri-commodity amid upsurge in physical demand for cardamom in the domestic spot market along with export demand. Further, insufficient supplies on restricted physical arrivals from the major cardamom producing regions, too supported the uptrend in the domestic cardamom prices. At the MCX, cardamom futures for November 2016 contract is trading at Rs 1228.90 per kg, up by 0.20 per cent, after opening at Rs 1249, against a previous close of Rs 1226.40. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 1253 (at 16:50 hours).

White metal shines on global cues

Silver futures were trading higher during the evening trade in the domestic market on Tuesday as participants widened their bets in the precious metal tracking positive cues from global markets.
Further, analysts attributed the rise in silver prices at futures trade to a firm trend in the precious metal overseas where silver rose to the highest in more than 2 weeks after European manufacturing data added to evidence of a pick up in the region's economy, boosting the demand outlook for metals.
At the MCX, silver futures for December 2016 contract is trading at Rs 42323 per kg, up by 0.63 per cent, after opening at Rs 42151, against a previous close of Rs 42058. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 42417 (at 16:33 hours).

Nickel futures were trading higher during the evening trade in the domestic market on Tuesday as investors and speculators build up fresh bets in the industrial metal amid an increase in physical demand for nickel from major consuming industries in the domestic spot market. The prices of nickel rise due to raising of positions by participants in the industrial metal on account of upsurge in spot demand from alloy-makers at domestic spot markets.
At the MCX, nickel futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 687.50 per kg, up by 1.46 per cent, after opening at Rs 680.40, against a previous close of Rs 677.60. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 688.30 (at 16:41 hours).

Crude oil futures rise ahead of US data

Crude oil futures were trading higher during the evening trade in the domestic market on Tuesday as investors and speculators widened their positions in the energy commodity ahead of the release of the US crude inventory data.
However, a flurry of top-level comments from OPEC members regarding chances of an output cut restricted further rise in prices.
At the MCX, crude oil futures for November 2016 contract is trading at Rs 3403 per barrel, up by 1.43 per cent, after opening at Rs 3360, against a previous close of Rs 3355. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 3414 (at 16:33 hours).

Gold up on feeble US housing data

Gold futures were trading higher in the domestic market on Thursday as the U.S. dollar continued to trade off multimonth highs hit earlier this month on the back of a drop in monthly domestic housing starts.
The downbeat economic data could dull prospects for an interest-rate increase by the Federal Reserve before the year is up which may help gold rise.
At the MCX, gold futures for December 2016 contract were trading at Rs 29965 per 10 grams, up by 0.21 per cent, after opening at Rs 29,990, against a previous close of Rs 29,901. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 30,005. (at 15:48 hrs)

Further, insufficient supplies on restricted physical arrivals from the major cardamom producing regions, too supported the uptrend in the domestic cardamom prices.
At the MCX, cardamom futures for November 2016 contract is trading at Rs 1180 per kg, up by 0.47 per cent, after opening at Rs 1185, against a previous close of Rs 1174.50. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 1200 (at 14:46 hours).

Nickel bears in control

Nickel futures dipped by 0.31 per cent during afternoon trade in the domestic market on Thursday as investors and speculators exited positions in the industrial metal amid weak physical demand for nickel from alloy-makers in the domestic spot market. Traders seemed unimpressed with Chinese economic data as Q3 economic growth was unchanged at 6.7 per cent from the June quarter while industrial output growth of 6.1 per cent in September came in below estimates, clouding the metal’s demand outlook.
At the MCX, nickel futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 683.70 per kg, down by 0.31 per cent, after opening at Rs 686.50, against a previous close of Rs 685.80 It touched the intra-day low of Rs 683.20. (at 14:24 hrs).

Crude oil rises as US output drops

Crude oil futures were trading higher in the domestic market on Friday in the wake of a U.S. government report that revealed the first weekly rise in crude supplies since the end of August, but also a drop in output for the lower 48 states to the lowest level in over two years.

Steel Ministry to provide low cost affordable homes: Min

Union Steel Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh has said that the steel ministry will promote recycling of scraps to increase in-house production and also provide affordable homes made of steel, which are cost effective and more durable. Commenting on the issue, Union Steel Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh told the media, "We want to increase steel consumption in the country and prepared prototypes of affordable house for Rural Development Ministry where 5 crore affordable houses will be built in coming five years." “The new scheme of PM Awas Yojana has endorsed Rs 2.20 lakh for a beneficiary. The ministry has prepared prototypes of steel which costs less than Rs two lakh a unit and three times more durable than the present structure,” he added. Emphasizing that the industry needs to promote use of steel in new and innovative ways, the minister said whether it be steel bridges, steel buildings or its related products in making roads in rural areas, steel can be used productively.

Yellow metal drops 0.34% on overseas cues

Further, trimming of positions by participants was in-line with a weak trend overseas amid rising bets that an improving US economy will push the US Fed to boost interest rates soon, thus reducing the appeal for gold as a safe haven asset for investors.

Nickel futures little changed on rising demand

Nickel futures were little changed during the afternoon trade in the domestic market on Tuesday as investors and speculators build up fresh positions amid rising demand after the Philippines widened a crackdown on miners, thus raising supply risk.
As per the UBS Group AG report, about a 10 per cent of the world’s nickel supply is at risk after the Philippines widened a crackdown on miners.
Last week, the Philippine government threatened to close another 14 mines. At the MCX, nickel futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 688 per kg, up by 0.04 per cent, after opening at Rs 687, against a previous close of Rs 687.70. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 692.40 (at 14:13 hours).

Oil jumps nearly 3% on OPEC deal

Crude oil futures soared during late morning trade in the domestic market on Thursday as investors and speculators booked fresh positions in the energy commodity after the OPEC agreed to cut output for the first time since 2008, easing worries of a global supply glut. The OPEC, a cartel which accounts for about 40 per cent of global crude supplies, at an informal meeting in Algiers on Wednesday, agreed in a preliminary deal to cut output to a range of 32.5 million to 33 million barrels per day. Iran will be exempt from capping output, while some details of the production cut are still to be worked out with the individual production cut targets for each country to be decided only in end-November when the OPEC meets. Meanwhile, US crude oil supplies fell for a fourth straight week with the EIA reporting a 1.9 million barrels draw to 502.7 million barrels for the week ended September 23, 2016. At the MCX, crude oil futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 3,147 per barrel, up by 2.81 per cent, after opening at Rs 3,071, against a previous close of Rs 3,061. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 3,149. (At 11:18 AM).

The Philippines order came after officials vowed to pursue stricter standards than in global mining centers such as Canada and Australia. However, Manila has already halted ten mines in an audit. At the MCX, nickel futures for September 2016 contract is trading at Rs 714.20 per kg, up by 0.98 per cent, after opening at Rs 709, against a previous close of Rs 707.30. Lead futures rose during noon trade in the domestic market on Tuesday as investors and speculators booked fresh positions in the industrial metal amid a pickup in physical demand for lead, from battery-makers, in the domestic spot market.
However, the gains in the metal were curbed by soft US new home sales data which indicated a slowdown in the housing market of the world’s biggest economy, threatening to curb metal demand. US new home sales fell 7.6 per cent to a 609,000 annualized pace in August 2016.
At the MCX, lead futures for September 2016 contract is trading at Rs 129.65 per kg, up by 0.50 per cent, after opening at Rs 129, against a previous close of Rs 129. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 130.25 (at 15:37 PM).

Natural gas falls despite upbeat demand outlook

Natural gas futures fell during noon trade in the domestic market on Tuesday as investors and speculators exit positions in the energy commodity amid worries that the market remains more than adequately supplied even as latest weather forecasts suggested unusually warm temperatures across most parts of the continental US in the coming days, bolstering the demand outlook for gas-fired air conditioning.
Natural gas supplies in the US rose by 52 billion cubic feet in the week ended September 16, 2016 to 3.551 trillion cubic feet, 4 per cent higher than levels at this time a year ago and 7.5 per cent above the five-year average for this time of year.
At the MCX, natural gas futures for September 2016 contract is trading at Rs 199.5 per mmbtu, down by 0.15 per cent, after opening at Rs 200.5, against a previous close of Rs 199.8. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 199.2 (at 15:37 PM).

Silver futures fell during noon trade in the domestic market on Tuesday as investors and speculators cut positions in the precious metal amid dimming safe haven appeal for the bullion after Democrat US Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton emerged as a clear winner in the first US Presidential debate, rattling Republican nominee Donald Trump who is seen as a negative for the financial markets.
Several opinion polls suggested that it was Clinton who probably came out on top after the first Presidential debate, bolstering appetite for risky assets and reducing demand for safe havens. A closely watched poll of debate watchers by CNN/ORC found that 62 per cent thought Clinton won and only 27 per cent thought Trump took round one.

Crude oil futures were trading higher during the afternoon trade in the domestic market on Monday as investors and speculators widened their positions in the energy commodity ahead of a meeting between major oil producers this week to discuss possible output curbs in a bid to help ease a global supply glut and support prices.
Algerian Energy Minister reportedly said that Saudi Arabia, the world’s leading crude exporter, is ready to slash output to January levels in a bid to convince other top producers to agree slashing production in Algeria this week. Marking the twelfth increase in 13 weeks, the US oil drilling count climbed by 2 to 418 last week.
At the MCX, crude oil futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 2,998 per barrel, up by 0.67 per cent, after opening at Rs 2,996, against a previous close of Rs 2,978. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 3,010 (at 15:33 hours).

Silver futures plunged during noon trade in the domestic market on Monday as investors and speculators exit positions in the precious metal tracking a bearish trend overseas as caution prevailed ahead of key events this week including the first US Presidential debate between the two leading candidates i.e. Hillary Clinton and Donald trump later today, and speeches of key central bank officials, spurring safe haven demand for the bullion.
Fed Chair Janet Yellen will speak this week even as uncertainty continues to surround the timing of the next US interest rate hike while European Central Bank president Mario Draghi may offer fresh hints over whether the Frankfurt-based central bank is likely to prop up stimulus.
At the MCX, silver futures for December 2016 contract is trading at Rs 46,390 per kg, down by 0.91 per cent, after opening at Rs 46,800, against a previous close of Rs 46,817. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 46,340 (at 15:27 PM).

Copper futures fell during noon trade in the domestic market on Monday as investors and speculators exit positions in the industrial metal amid weak physical demand for copper in the domestic spot market.
Further, a slowdown in manufacturing activity in the US and private sector growth in the Euro area in September raised concerns over the metal’s near-term demand outlook.
While a gauge measuring US manufacturing fell to 51.4 in September compared to 52 in August, a combined index of Euro area manufacturing and services hit a 20-month low this month at 52.6, signaling an uncertain outlook for the 19-member economy.
At the MCX, copper futures for November 2016 contract is trading at Rs 325.6 per kg, down by 0.67 per cent, after opening at Rs 327, against a previous close of Rs 327.80. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 325.05 (at 15:16 PM).

At the MCX, gold futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 31,268 per 10 grams, down by 0.04 per cent, after opening at Rs 31,236, against a previous close of Rs 31,281. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 31,211 (at 15:12 hours).

NICKEL: DOWN TREND
Nickel futures tumbled by more than 1.5 per cent during noon trade in the domestic market on Monday as investors and speculators exit positions in the industrial metal amid weak physical demand for nickel, from alloy-makers in the domestic spot market.
Sentiment also dampened after a report by Citigroup said that fears over supplies due to the shutting down of operations at some mines in Philippines, the world's top miner of nickel ore, if they fail to meet new environment or welfare standards, are misplaced.
At the MCX, nickel futures for September 2016 contract is trading at Rs 695.2 per kg, down by 1.57 per cent, after opening at Rs 705, against a previous close of Rs 706.30. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 692.7 (at 14:32 PM).

Caution keeps bullion little changed

BULLION: DOWN TREND
Gold futures were trading flat, with a negative bias, in noon trade in the domestic market on Monday as investors stuck to a cautious approach ahead of comments from officials from major global central banks which will offer fresh cues over monetary policy outlooks in developed economies, while the focus was also on the outcome of the first debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, the top two contenders for the US presidency.
Fed Chair Janet Yellen will speak this week even as uncertainty continues to surround the timing of the next US interest rate hike while European Central Bank president Mario Draghi may offer fresh hints over whether the Frankfurt-based central bank is likely to bolster monetary stimulus in the coming months to help prop up the 19-member Euro area economy.
At the MCX, gold futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 31,272 per 10 grams, down by 0.03 per cent, after opening at Rs 31,236, against a previous close of Rs 31,281. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 31,211. (At 12:56 PM).


Lead futures drop 0.12% on weak demand

LEAD: DOWN TREND
Lead futures were trading lower during the noon trade in the domestic market on Monday as participants cut down their positions in the industrial metal due to a fall in physical demand for lead, from battery-makers, in the domestic spot market.
Further, a decline in demand from battery-makers in the domestic spot market, influenced prices of lead at the domestic spot markets. At the MCX, lead futures for September 2016 contract is trading at Rs 127.20 per kg, down by 0.12 per cent, after opening at Rs 127.10, against a previous close of Rs 127.35. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 126.85 (at 12:23 hours).


Aluminium futures slide on diminishing demand

ALUMINIUM: DOWN TREND
Aluminium futures were trading lower during the noon trade in the domestic market on Monday as participants trimmed their positions amidst sluggish physical demand for aluminium in the domestic spot market.
Further, a fall in demand for aluminium at the domestic spot market was led by cut down of positions by participants in the spot markets, influenced aluminium prices at futures trade.
At the MCX, aluminium futures for September 2016 contract is trading at Rs 108.35 per kg, down by 0.32 per cent, after opening at Rs 108.10, against a previous close of Rs 108.70. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 108 (at 12:18 hours).

Nickel futures were trading lower during the noon trade in the domestic market on Monday as investors and speculators trimmed their bets amid muted physical demand from alloy-makers at the domestic spot market.
Further, a slide in domestic demand from alloy-makers at the spot markets, influenced the downtrend in nickel prices at futures trade. At the MCX, nickel futures for September 2016 contract is trading at Rs 697 per kg, down by 1.32 per cent, after opening at Rs 705, against a previous close of Rs 706.30. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 696.30 (at 12:09 hours).


Mentha oil futures rise 0.38% on spot demand

MENTHAOIL: UPTREND
Mentha oil futures were trading higher during the morning trade in the domestic market on Monday as participants widened their positions in the agri-commodity amid a rise in physical demand for mentha oil from major consuming industries in the domestic spot market.
Further, the creation of fresh bets by traders in the spot market due to a surge in demand for mentha oil from consuming industries in the spot market against tight stocks position on restricted supplies from producing regions, helped mentha oil prices to trade higher at futures trade.
At the MCX, mentha oil futures for September 2016 contract were trading at Rs 880.60 per kg, up by 0.38 per cent after opening at Rs 878.30, against the previous closing price of Rs 877.30. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 881.70 (at 11:58 hours).
