Zinc dips on weak US housing data

Zinc futures fell during afternoon trade in the domestic market on Thursday as investors and speculators exited positions in the industrial metal amid weak physical demand for zinc in the domestic spot market. Further, a gauge measuring homebuilder sentiment in the US declined to 63 in October from 65 in September, signalling a faltering housing market recovery in the world’s biggest economy, clouding the demand outlook for the metal. Meanwhile, China’s economy was stable in the September quarter with GDP coming in at 6.7 per cent.
At the MCX, zinc futures for October 2016 contract is trading at Rs 153.15 per kg, down by 0.39 per cent, after opening at Rs 153.80, against a previous close of Rs 153.75. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 152.80 (at 01:17 PM).

Silver rises on strong global cues

Silver futures were trading higher in the domestic market on Thursday after participants raised their bets amid firming global trends. Analysts attributed the rise in silver prices at futures trade to a firming trend in the precious metals overseas.
At the MCX, silver futures for December 2016 contract were trading at Rs 42,240 per kg, up by 0.11 per cent, after opening at Rs 42,350, against a previous close of Rs 42,194. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 42,385(at 12:45 hrs)

Gold rises on weak US housing data

Gold futures were trading higher in the domestic market on Thursday as the U.S. dollar continued to trade off multimonth highs hit earlier this month on the back of a drop in monthly domestic housing starts.
The downbeat economic data could dull prospects for an interest-rate increase by the Federal Reserve before the year is up which may help gold rise.
At the MCX, gold futures for December 2016 contract ended at Rs 29969 per 10 grams, up by 0.23 per cent, after opening at Rs 29,990, against a previous close of Rs 29,901. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 30,005. (at 12:15 hrs)
