GOLD: UPTREND
Gold futures closed higher in the domestic market on Thursday as the U.S. Federal Reserve signaled an interest rate increase by the end of the year after policy was kept unchanged in September, as expected. Gold is highly exposed to interest rates, particularly in the United States, as higher rates lift the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets and boost the dollar, in which gold is priced. At the MCX, gold futures for October 2016 contract ended at Rs 31,320 per 10 grams, up by 0.37 per cent, after opening at Rs 31,250, against a previous close of Rs 31,205. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 31,380.
