Crude oil rises as crude inventories drop

Crude oil futures closed higher in the domestic market on Wednesday after U.S. government data revealed a drop in crude inventories, marking the third such unexpected weekly decline in a row. Expectations swaying back toward the likelihood of an output deal among major oil producers next week also delivered a shot in the arm for the Fed. At the MCX, crude oil futures for October 2016 contract closed at Rs 3044 per barrel, up by 2.98 per cent, after opening at Rs 2,965, against a previous close of Rs 2,956. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 3,063.


Gold up after Fed keeps rate unchanged

Gold futures closed higher in the domestic market on Wednesday after the August Fed meeting on Wednesday in which the U.S. Federal Reserve kept rates unchanged. Earlier, gold had already edged higher after the Bank of Japan adopted a target for long-term interest rates. Gold climbed along with stock markets after the Bank of Japan overhauled its monetary policy framework, switching to targeting interest rates and sidelining more than three years of massive money printing. At the MCX, gold futures for October 2016 contract ended at Rs 31,211 per 10 grams, up by 0.93 per cent, after opening at Rs 30,975, against a previous close of Rs 30,924. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 31,238.

Silver rises on firm global cues

Silver futures closed higher in the domestic market on Wednesday as traders built up fresh positions tracking a firm trend overseas. Market analysts said that fresh positions created by participants in line with a firm trend in precious metals in global markets mainly influenced silver prices at the futures trade. At the MCX, silver futures for December 2016 contract closed at Rs 47,214 per kg, up by 2.33 per cent, after opening at Rs 45,920, against a previous close of Rs 46,138. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 47,325.
