Gold dips on strong US dollar
25/10/2016 08:49
Gold futures closed lower in the domestic market on Monday as the U.S. dollar touched another 8-month high in the wake of data showing that the pace of growth among American manufacturers was better than expected in October.
The dollar and gold often move inversely because a firmer buck leaves dollar-priced commodities less desirable to purchasers using another currency.
At the MCX, gold futures for December 2016 contract ended at Rs 29743 per 10 grams, down by 0.68 per cent, after opening at Rs 29,905, against a previous close of Rs 29,946. It touched the intra-

Crude oil up as output cut likely
24/10/2016 08:52
Crude oil futures closed higher in the domestic market on Friday amid growing expectations that major crude producers will strike a firm deal late next month to curb output.
Russia had expressed interest in the past in collaborating with OPEC in a production cut but the lack of a firm and clear commitment from Moscow is making some people in the industry jittery. Without Russia’s participation, OPEC’s plan to cut production by 200,000 to 700,000 barrels a day could flop because members wouldn’t want to cut their own production in fear they will lose market share to non-OPEC producers.
At the MCX, crude oil futures for November 2016 contract closed at Rs 3409 per barrel, up by 0.29 per cent, after opening at Rs 3390, against a previous close of Rs 3399. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 3424.

Gold rises as Fed rate hike uncertainty continues
24/10/2016 08:51
Gold futures closed higher in the domestic market on Friday as uncertainty surrounding the outcome of the U.S. election and the timing of Federal Reserve’s next interest-rate hike helped to lift investment interest in the yellow metal despite some strength in the U.S. dollar.
Currently, Fed futures trading indicate that a solid chance for a December move remains priced in to trading. Precious metals, which don’t offer a yield, can see demand diminish compared with investments that bear a yield in a rising-rate climate.
At the MCX, gold futures for December 2016 contract ended at Rs 29963 per 10 grams, up by 0.18 per cent, after opening at Rs 29,850, against a previous close of Rs 29,910. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 29,975.

Gold up on weak US data
18/10/2016 08:52
Gold futures closed higher in the domestic market on Monday after a survey showed that US consumer confidence unexpectedly fell to a one-year low in October amid a contentious presidential campaign. Gold down on strong US dollar
05/10/2016 08:50
Gold futures closed lower in the domestic market on Tuesday as the dollar continued to flex its muscle against leading rivals, the pound in particular, cutting demand for commodities priced in the U.S. currency. The prospect for higher U.S. interest rates is typically a negative for gold, which is snubbed in favor of asset classes that offer a yield that precious metals don’t. What’s more, higher interest rates can boost the dollar and dull demand for dollar-denominated commodities, including gold. That means gold and the dollar often move inversely. At the MCX, gold futures for October 2016 contract ended at Rs 30,149 per 10 grams, down by 1.41 per cent, after opening at Rs 30,645, against a previous close of Rs 30,579. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 29,885.
