Crude oil slide on drop in US crude inventories

Crude oil futures closed lower in the domestic market on Friday as investors and speculators exited positions in the energy commodity due to a surprise drop in US crude inventories.
The Energy Information Administration reported a whopping 14.5 million-barrel drop in US crude stocks for the week ended on 2nd September.
At the MCX, crude oil futures for September 2016 contract closed at Rs 3,081 per barrel, down by 2.62 per cent, after opening at Rs 3,150, against a previous close of Rs 3,164. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 3,073.

Silver futures closed lower in the domestic market on Friday as investors and speculators exited their positions in the precious metal tracking overseas cues.
Prices for silver futures fell as hawkish comments from US Fed officials raised bets on a rate hike as early as September, thus diminishing demand for silver. At the MCX, silver futures for December 2016 contract closed at Rs 46,240 per kg, down by 1.01 per cent, after opening at Rs 46,719, against a previous close of Rs 46,714. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 46,125.

Gold shines on overseas cues

Gold futures closed marginally higher in the domestic market on Friday as investors and speculators extended their positions in the precious metal amid uncertainty over the outlook for monetary policies in some of the world’s biggest economies.
Further, Boston Federal Reserve Bank of President Eric Rosengren urged policymakers to tighten interest rates as waiting too long may overheat the US economy.
Safe haven assets become attractive for investors amid global uncertainity, thus rising demand for gold.
At the MCX, gold futures for October 2016 contract closed at Rs 31,236 per 10 grams, up by 0.11 per cent, after opening at Rs 31,245, against a previous close of Rs 31,203. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 31,296.
